Douglas Regional 9-1-1: Public Education & Community Outreach
Douglas Regional 9-1-1 is committed to connecting with our community before an emergency happens. Our Public Education Team offers residents of all ages opportunities to learn more about 9-1-1, emergency preparedness, and lifesaving skills.
Our dispatchers participate in community events, school visits, and educational programs throughout Douglas County.
Events & Programs:
Community CPR Classes
Early CPR can make a lifesaving difference before first responders arrive.
Our Public Education Team hosts community CPR classes to teach residents the basic skills needed to recognize a cardiac emergency and begin CPR while help is on the way.
Classes give community members hands-on experience and build the confidence to act during an emergency.
9-1-1 Education for Schools
Knowing when and how to call 9-1-1 is an important skill for children to learn.
Our dispatchers visit schools and youth programs to provide age-appropriate 9-1-1 education. Depending on the age group, topics may include:
- When to call 9-1-1
- The difference between an emergency and a non-emergency
- Knowing your home address and location
- What information will a dispatcher ask for
- Why it’s important to stay on the phone and answer questions
- What to do if you accidentally call 9-1-1
- What a 9-1-1 dispatcher does
- How dispatchers help police officers, deputies, firefighters, and paramedics
Our goal is to help children feel more comfortable calling 9-1-1 so they know what to do if they ever need help.
Community Events
Want Douglas Regional 9-1-1 at your next community event?
Our Public Education Team participates in community events year-round. Dispatchers can set up an educational booth where community members can meet the people behind the headset, learn how 9-1-1 works, ask questions, and learn more about emergency communications.
We may be available for:
- Community safety events
- School events
- Career fairs
- Neighborhood events
- Public safety events
- County and community festivals
- Other educational opportunities
