How to Search for a Sex Offender

You can search for sex offenders living in your area and also sign up to receive alerts when one moves into your neighborhood.

The following are ways to locate registered sex offenders:

  1.  SOTAR  –  On this website, you can search for sex offenders or register to be emailed when an offender moves into your neighborhood. Note, the SOTAR list only contains the names of serious sex offenders who qualified by state statute to be placed on the list.
  2. Obtain a printed copy of all of the sex offenders listed in your area at the Sheriff’s Office at 4000 Justice Way, Castle Rock, Colorado or the Highlands Ranch Substation at 9250 Zotos Drive, Highlands Ranch, CO 80129. You will need to present a valid ID & will be required to complete a records request form.  The list cannot be mailed, emailed, or faxed.
  3. The Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) maintains a website of sex offenders who have failed to register and who have been convicted of two or more crimes involving unlawful sexual behavior. The list will contain the sex offender’s photograph, physical description, last known address, and conviction information.
  4. CBI’s website also contains various educational materials including Sexually Violent Predators, Prevention, Safety, and Statistics.

Think Someone You Know Is A Sex Offender?

To report an EMERGENCY in progress, always call 9-1-1. To report suspicious behavior, contact the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office non-emergency number at 303-660-7500 for a Deputy response.

To report a suspected person you believe has failed to register or for general Sex Offender questions and concerns, please call our dedicated HOTLINE at 303-784-7888 or email sor@dcsheriff.net.

In most cases, you can remain anonymous.

The Colorado sex offender registry includes only those persons who have been required by law to register and who are in compliance with the sex offender registration laws. Persons should not rely solely on the sex offender registry as a safeguard against perpetrators of sexual assault in their communities. The crime for which a person is convicted may not accurately reflect the level of risk.
