(Douglas County) – On December 20, 2023, at 5 a.m., Douglas County Detentions deputies responded to an inmate who had suffered an unknown medical issue while being housed at the Douglas County Detention Center. The inmate was unconscious and not breathing. Deputies and medical personnel immediately started lifesaving efforts. He was transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced deceased by medical staff. No signs of a physical disturbance or suspicious activity were observed by detention staff. The investigation is ongoing at this time. The Douglas County Coroner’s Office conducted the autopsy today and will release the identification once next of kin notifications have been made.
