(Douglas County, CO) On Friday morning at approximately 9:35 AM, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office responded to multiple reports of a vehicle driving erratically and hitting the center median barrier on I-25 near Castle Pines while going 75 MPH.
A Douglas County Deputy spotted the driver, attempted to stop the vehicle and followed the vehicle southbound until the Greenland Road Exit in Larkspur. During the pursuit, deputies took careful measures to back off traffic and reduce the risk to the public.
The Colorado State Patrol (CSP), equipped with Grappler technology, was in the area and successfully deployed the device to bring the vehicle to a safe stop. This action prevented what could have been a tragic outcome and allowed the suspect to be taken into custody without injury. https://youtu.be/vV1Zf-MX980
Douglas County also has vehicles equipped with Grappler technology. While one of our Grappler-equipped vehicles wasn’t close enough to engage on Friday, this incident underscores how vital this tool, and interagency coordination, can be.
Sheriff Darren Weekly said, “We appreciate the partnership with the Colorado State Patrol, and this goes to show the usefulness of this technology. It’s also a reminder, if you drive recklessly or try to run from us, we will pursue you and we will catch you.”
Our thanks to Colorado State Patrol and our deputies for their professionalism and teamwork in keeping our community safe.
