(Douglas County, CO) The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of an inmate at the Douglas County Detention Center. At approximately 5:05 p.m. on May 23rd, 2024, a deputy delivered dinner to the inmate’s cell and noticed him unconscious and not breathing. Deputies and medical personnel immediately started lifesaving efforts. Castle Rock Fire and Rescue responded to the scene to assist and took over lifesaving measures. The inmate was pronounced deceased at 5:46 p.m.
The 31-year-old male was booked into the jail at 5:50 a.m. on May 23rd, 2024, was in a cell by himself, and no signs of a physical disturbance or suspicious activity were observed by detention staff. The investigation is ongoing, and no further information will be released at this time.
