Sheriff Weekly on Crackdown of Illegal Fireworks

Sheriff Weekly on Crackdown of Illegal Fireworks

(Douglas County, Colorado) As we approach the 4th of July, Douglas County Sheriff Darren Weekly discusses the dangers and legal consequences of using illegal fireworks. #DCSO is taking a different approach this year. Last year, we received 786 calls about illegal fireworks between 7PM and 11 PM on the 4th of July alone. We understand that fireworks are a part of the celebration, but they’re also a safety hazard, fire danger, and a major disturbance for many in our community.

This year, we will be proactive and aggressive in enforcing the laws against illegal fireworks, which in Colorado, means fireworks that leave the ground or explode. Deputies will be out in full force, in patrol cars and on bikes, using their discretion to ensure everyone’s safety. We’re not here to ruin the fun, but to make sure that our community can enjoy a safe and peaceful holiday.

If you have fireworks, please make sure they’re legal and use them responsibly. Let’s work together to have a great 4th of July without unnecessary risks or disruptions.
