Sheriff Weekly Warns Citizens About Brazen Criminals

Sheriff Weekly Warns Citizens About Brazen Criminals

NARRATIVE: DOUGLAS COUNTY, CO – In the last few months, Douglas County neighborhoods have been hit by thieves who are becoming increasingly brazen, some even carrying weapons.

Since May a group of suspects committing garage burglaries, auto thefts, and vehicle trespasses have been targeting several areas throughout Douglas County. The group targets unlocked vehicles, often looking for garage door remotes so they can open the garage door and steal items or vehicles in the garage with keys left inside. In at least two of the incidents, we know that the suspects were carrying guns. Investigators also believe these stolen vehicles are being used in other jurisdictions to commit further crimes.

While Douglas County patrol deputies and detectives are working hard to identify and catch these criminals, we need your help. “Prevention starts with you.  Please help us by not giving these thieves any opportunity to victimize our community.  Lock your car doors, take your personal belongings out, remove your garage door openers, and lock the interior doors to your house. It is also extremely important that you do not confront these thieves. The last thing we want is for anyone to get hurt or even worse, killed. We will not stop until these criminals are apprehended,” said Sheriff Weekly.

Please do your part and take the opportunity away from these criminals. If you see something or someone suspicious in your neighborhood, please call 9-1-1 right away. Again, DO NOT confront these criminals. The quicker you call us, the quicker we can get to the area to catch them.
