Officer John Adsit was hit by a car on Dec. 3, 2014 while assisting other officers in escorting East High School students back to school during a protest. The event and John’s recovery have been highly publicized and covered by the media.

• John suffered bone breaks in both shoulders. His left arm has 3 different plates in it holding his bones together. He has a broken finger and severed tendons in his left hand. The ribs on his right side were fractured and the ribs on his left side were crushed. He has a metal rib plate on his left side. His pelvic bone is cracked and his right femur was broken. The femoral artery in his left leg was severed, his lung was punctured, he had to have organs removed, he’s had numerous skin grafts and his vision is blurry. He has endured over 15 surgeries and will remain in long-term rehabilitation for the next several months.

• The Adsit family faces mounting medical bills and extensive living expenses related to the accident.

• John is a devoted husband and father of 4. He is active in his community and church as a musician and coach for multiple little league teams. He is an avid snowboarder, athlete, Broncos and Rockies fan, and family man. His determination to recover and attend the RISE & RUN 5K has helped fuel his progress. He is now walking short distances with assistance and aggressively pursuing rehabiliation. His wife and four children will be running in the 5K and they hope to be pushing John through the course.
