Welcome to our Records & Media Request Section:

Records can be requested electronically, in person at the Douglas County Justice Center or at the Highlands Ranch Substation, or through US mail.

We will contact you within 72 business hours to verify receipt of your request.

Electronic Requests:

Explore our Online Records Portal – your convenient one-stop destination to easily submit electronic records requests for Citations, Case/Incident Reports, Jail Records, and much more, plus track the status of your ongoing requests.

The Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) handles all Colorado background check requests.

To request an accident/crash report,  please use the banner below or CLICK HERE.

If your records request involves children, you may be required to provide a juvenile attestation and a copy of your driver’s license. The juvenile attestation does not replace the records request form.

In Person and Mail Submissions:

Prior to visiting the Douglas County Justice Center in Castle Rock or the Highlands Ranch  Substation in Highlands Ranch, please download and complete the fillable records request form

Please note: records requests are processed in the order they are received and may not be fulfilled at the time of submission. 

A copy of the completed fillable records request form can also be mailed to Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, ATTN: Records, 4000 Justice Way, Castle Rock, CO 80109

Inmate Jail and/or Medical Records:

Explore our Online Records Portal – your convenient one-stop destination to easily submit electronic records requests for Inmate Jail and/or Medical Records, plus track the status of your ongoing requests.

  • Please choose “Jail Records Request” from the records type drop-down menu.

If you are requesting medical records, you must download and complete the Medical Records Release form and submit it with your request.

CRIMINAL JUSTICE RECORDS ACT (CJRA)

The Criminal Justice Records Act (CJRA), C.R.S. §24-72-306 pertains to law enforcement records. Most records are public and open to inspection.

If you are unable to find what you need online, please email CJRA@dcsheriff.net.

COLORADO OPEN RECORDS ACT (CORA)

The Colorado Open Records Act (CORA), C.R.S. §24-72-201 et seq. guarantees that the public has access to the records of government bodies at all levels in Colorado. Most records are public and open for inspection.

If you are unable to find what you need online, please submit an open records/CORA request to one of the following:

  • All County Departments and Offices (excluding Sheriff) must submit a request through the online portal.
