Mountain Vista High School Students Honored with Sheriff’s Commendation for Heroic Actions at Accident Scene

Highlands Ranch, CO – March 6, 2025 – Douglas County Sheriff Darren Weekly awarded five students from Mountain Vista High School—Amadou Bah, Ibrahima Bah, Abdulai Bah, Kasper Skonieczny, and Ousmane Balde—with the Sheriff’s Commendation Award for their courageous and selfless actions in response to a serious motor vehicle accident that occurred on January 27, 2025, at the intersection of Wildcat Reserve Parkway and Poston Parkway. Video of Awards Ceremony

At approximately 7:30 AM, during peak traffic hours, a vehicle rolled over in the middle of the intersection. The students, who were on their way to school, witnessed the accident and immediately took action. Before emergency responders or any adult drivers could react, the five teenagers ran toward the overturned vehicle and, without hesitation, worked together to safely remove the driver and passenger.

In an extremely dangerous situation, where there were multiple unknowns and traffic was heavy, these five students demonstrated remarkable bravery. They risked their own safety to ensure the well-being of others in their community, acting quickly to assist the victims despite not knowing the full extent of the danger at the scene. A cell phone video from the incident captured their heroic efforts, reflecting their willingness to put others before themselves in the face of uncertainty.

“Amadou, Ibrahima, Abdulai, Ousmane, and Kasper exemplify what it means to be ‘Good People,’ a core value at Mountain Vista High School,” said Sheriff Darren Weekly. “Their quick response, even at the risk of their own safety, is nothing short of heroic. I am proud to recognize them for their incredible actions.”

The Sheriff’s Commendation Award honors those who go above and beyond in service to the community, and these five students are being recognized for their quick thinking and willingness to help in a critical situation. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office commends Amadou, Ibrahima, Abdulai, Ousmane, and Kasper, and we are proud to highlight their bravery as an example to others.
