Last night, shortly before 9:00 p.m., Douglas County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a home on the 9900 block of Aftonwood St, in Highlands Ranch on the report of gunshots. Deputies learned that the roommates who lived at the house were involved in a disturbance, outside the home, and at one point the suspect grabbed a gun. As one of the victims was driving away from the residence, he heard gunshots and saw the suspect standing in the street. The suspect left the residence but was taken into custody a short while later without incident.
Cesar Olang-Puig, age 29, was taken into custody and transported to the Douglas County Detention Facility. He faces charges of Criminal Attempted Homicide, Illegal Discharge of a Weapon, and Disorderly conduct discharging a weapon.
The charges are allegations, and every defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
“This senseless act could have easily injured or killed an innocent occupant of a nearby home. Our staff did an excellent job of handling this incident. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office will make examples of people who choose to commit acts like this in Douglas County,” said Sheriff Darren Weekly.
