(Douglas County, CO) — The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office has opened registration for its popular Youth Academy program, offering free, hands-on experiences for elementary, middle, and high school students across the county this summer.
After last year’s Youth Academies filled quickly and received overwhelming support from families and students, the Sheriff’s Office has added additional sessions and locations to allow more young people the opportunity to participate.
The Youth Academies are designed to give students a behind-the-scenes look at law enforcement, while building positive relationships between deputies and the community. Participants will meet deputies, learn about different aspects of public safety, and experience what it’s like to serve the community.
“We were blown away by the response to last year’s Youth Academies,” said Sheriff Darren Weekly. “The excitement from students and families showed us just how important these programs are. By adding more sessions this year, we’re able to give even more young people the chance to learn about law enforcement, build confidence, and connect with the deputies who serve their community.”
