What an amazing young man! We are humbled to be the recipient of this very important project.
Sam, from Boy Scouts of America Troop 770, contacted us several months ago about his Eagle Scout project. His vision was to create a monument honoring all the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office K9s who have served in our Office. We are excited to say that his vision is now becoming a reality.
“Sam is a remarkable young man. As a former K9 handler, I have a special appreciation for these dogs. To have them memorialized in this way means a lot to our agency. We are grateful for Sam’s initiative to get this accomplished,” said Sheriff Darren Weekly, who supports this project 100%.
Sam even received the thumbs-up from Friends of Douglas County K-9, a non-profit organization solely committed to the support of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit. Sam also presented his project to the Douglas County – Government Board of County Commissioners, who gave him full approval since the monument will be placed in front of the Justice Center, next to our fallen officer memorials. Sheriff Weekly was on hand to introduce Sam in the BOCC business meeting.
With all the approvals under his belt, Sam is now entering the fundraising stage of his project. We are reaching out to our phenomenal community, asking to help Sam reach his goal faster. Please check out his website, which will give you information about how you can donate.
