Crime Drops in Douglas County, But Majority of Serious Offenders Are Non-Residents

(Douglas County, CO) Sheriff Weekly joined District Attorney George Brauchler and our law enforcement partners for a joint press conference on crime trends in Douglas County. The good news: Overall crime is down significantly…thanks to the incredible work of our deputies, investigators, prosecutors, and community partners.
• Burglaries ↓ 42%
• Motor vehicle theft ↓ 24%
• Auto trespass ↓ 31%
• Forcible rape ↓ 34%
• Property vandalism ↓ 24%
But we’re also seeing a clear trend: nearly 70% of serious crime arrests involve individuals who don’t live in Douglas County. Criminals are targeting our community from other areas, and we’re adapting fast. We’re strengthening regional partnerships, leveraging technology to solve crimes faster, and holding offenders accountable.
Sheriff Weekly said, “We are going to do everything we can to apprehend these criminals as they are committing crimes. If we don’t catch you at the scene of the crime or fleeing from that crime, our detectives will track you down wherever you are, and we will take the time to write search warrants to find you, arrest you, and bring you back to the Douglas County Jail.”
