We are seeing a rise in scams involving individuals falsely claiming to be with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office. These scams are not coming from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office. One scam involves callers posing as Deputies or Sergeants who claim you missed jury duty or have an active warrant and then demand immediate payment to resolve the issue. Another scam targets families of individuals in custody, falsely offering to help post bond and requesting payment through gift cards, cryptocurrency, or wire transfers.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and Detentions Facility will never contact you to collect payment over the phone for any of these reasons. If you receive one of these calls, do not send money and hang up.
