On 07/16/19, shortly before 8:00 am, deputies responded to the area of C-470 and University on a call that there was a person in the area armed with a weapon, who had just robbed a cyclist.
While in route to area, deputies learned that the victim was riding his bicycle on the bike path between Quebec St and Colorado Blvd and was attacked. Information was relayed that the suspect attacked the victim, stole his bicycle and was fleeing the scene. A description was given and when deputies arrived the suspect was being held by witnesses and other citizens in the area.
The victim was taken to a local hospital where he is being treated for his injuries.
The suspect, Rodrigo Ameiorsano, DOB 022692, was taken into custody, transported to the Douglas County Detention Facility where he was booked in on the following charges:
18-3-203 F3 Assault in the Second Degree
18-4-301 F4 Robbery
18-4-401 F6 Theft
18-4-501 M3 Criminal Mischief
“This is a perfect example of human nature and the need to help those in need. This person was assaulted and those around him jumped into action to make sure the suspect didn’t get away, Thank you to all those involved,” stated Sheriff Spurlock.
Ameiorsano is being held on a $25,000 bond. This is still an open investigation and no other information will be released at this time.
