Phil Domenico Division Chief of Detentions

Captain Phil Domenico

Phil Domenico has been a member of the law enforcement community for 32 years. He joined the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office in 2014 starting as a deputy in the Detentions Division transferring to the Patrol Division the following year. He was later transferred to Investigations where he was assigned as the Intel Detective. Upon his promotion to Sergeant, he was assigned to Internal Affairs where he served until his promotion to Lieutenant. As a Lieutenant, he was Commander of Internal Affairs until his promotion to Captain. In that capacity, he’s served as the Captain of the Highlands Ranch Division, Patrol, and his current assignment as Captain of the Detentions Division. Domenico remained in Detentions when that position transitioned from Captain to Division Chief.

Chief Domenico started his civilian law enforcement career with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office in 1990 as a Detentions Deputy. He progressed through the ranks of Sergeant and Lieutenant overseeing various units throughout the Sheriff’s office including Work Release, SWAT, Aviation, K-9, Directed Operations Unit and Traffic / Motorcycle team. Upon promotion to Captain at Jefferson County, he was assigned as commander of the Patrol Division serving four years in that role. He was later transferred as Commander of the Support Services Division where he had oversight of the Jefferson County Regional Law Enforcement Cadet training academy.

During his law enforcement tenure, Chief Domenico has attended several special training courses which include the Weapons of Mass Destruction / Unified Command School at Texas A&M University; Police Executive Command and Leadership Training at Penn State University; SWAT Supervisors Management training through the National Tactical Officers Association; Senior Management Institute for Police Seminar (SMIPS) in Boston, Massachusetts; and Law Enforcement Domestic Terrorism training through the Israeli National Police / Israeli Defense Forces.

Chief Domenico holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Organizational Management and is a proud veteran of the United States Air Force having served as a Security Policeman in both resource protection and law enforcement operations. He is a former member of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Mounted Patrol Team.
