Douglas County Sheriff Darren Weekly Unveils New Grappler Vehicle Intervention Technology to Enhance Public Safety

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Douglas County, CO — Sheriff Darren Weekly announced today that the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office has officially implemented the Grappler System as part of its ongoing commitment to public safety and responsible law enforcement.

“We’re excited to introduce the Grappler system to Douglas County,” said Sheriff Darren Weekly. “We’ve recently purchased, trained on, and equipped five vehicles with this innovative technology to help reduce vehicle pursuits and enhance safety for both the public and our deputies. The Grappler acts as a tether, giving deputies the ability to gain control of a suspect vehicle before it can flee. It’s an effective tool that supports our ongoing mission to keep our community safe and hold offenders accountable. This is another step forward in providing our team with the resources they need to do their jobs safely.”

The Grappler system is designed to reduce the risk associated with high-speed pursuits by deploying a reinforced tether from the front of a patrol vehicle to entangle the rear wheel of a fleeing vehicle. The system allows deputies to safely bring potentially dangerous situations to a controlled stop, minimizing the risk of injury to the public, officers, and suspects.

Sheriff Weekly emphasized the importance of innovation in public safety efforts: “Every step we take toward smarter, safer law enforcement practices is a step toward a more secure Douglas County. We’re committed to staying ahead of the curve and making sure our deputies have the best tools available to protect our community.” Grappler System Demonstration
