Douglas County Deputies Investigate Fatal Auto Vs. Pedestrian Crash

On March 16, 2025, at around 2:54 p.m., DCSO deputies responded to a reported auto vs. pedestrian crash at the intersection of Kendrick Castillo Way and Mayberry Dr. in Highlands Ranch, CO.

A 31-year-old adult male was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver remained on the scene.

The Douglas County Traffic Unit was called out to investigate. While this is still an open investigation, preliminarily, it appears that the driver may have fallen asleep and struck the adult male and his dog, who were walking southbound on the sidewalk. The dog was taken to a local veterinary hospital. Investigators later learned the dog died as well.

The driver, Cade Kaminski, age 19, was taken into custody and transported to the Douglas County Detention Facility, where he was booked on the following charges: Vehicular Homicide F4, Cruelty to Animals-Recklessly or with Criminal Negligence M1, Reckless Driving MT2 and Weaving.

The Douglas County Coroner’s Office is responsible for the official identification of the deceased.

Again, this is an open investigation, and no more information will be released at this time.
