Joel White Division Chief of Patrol

Joel White serves as the Patrol Division Chief for the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, overseeing all uniformed patrol operations and ensuring the highest standards of public safety and service to the community.
Division Chief White began his career with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office in the Detentions Division, serving as both a civilian and deputy. He later transitioned to the Patrol Division, where he excelled as a Field Training Officer, mentoring new deputies and demonstrating strong leadership in frontline law enforcement operations.
In 2011, Division Chief White joined the Investigations Division as a Task Force Officer with the FBI Metro Gang Task Force and DEA Group 1, handling complex, multi-jurisdictional conspiracy cases. He later served as a detective and corporal in the Major Crimes Unit, leading homicide and officer-involved shooting investigations. As Sergeant of the Impact Unit, he supervised a multi-agency task force targeting criminal enterprises. Advancing to Major Crimes Lieutenant and later Captain of Investigations, he oversaw critical units, including Persons Crimes, Special Victims, Financial Crimes, the FIRST Investigative Task Force, and Crime Scene Investigators.
Division Chief White also served as the Commander of the Douglas County Regional SWAT Team and the Douglas County Bomb Squad, bringing extensive expertise in explosive ordnance disposal, tactical leadership, critical incident management, and high-risk operations. A team member since 2004, he graduated from the FBI Hazardous Devices School (HDS) in 2006 and attended the CATO SWAT Command School, specializing in explosive breaching, tactical operations, and specialized response efforts.
Now leading the Patrol Division, Division Chief White oversees all uniformed patrol deputies, traffic enforcement, community outreach efforts, and emergency response operations throughout Douglas County. His leadership ensures that deputies are well-trained, well-equipped, and ready to respond to the evolving needs of the community.
