Mike Alexander Emergency Management Director
Mike joined the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office in February 2014. He has more than 25 years of incident management and emergency management experience locally, throughout Colorado, and across the country. Prior to joining Douglas County, Mike worked for the US Forest Service and Pike Interagency Hotshot Crew.
Mike administers the Office of Emergency Management, which includes facilitating interagency coordination, cooperation, and planning between all levels of government including local, state, and federal agencies and other stakeholders, non-governmental organizations, or volunteer groups. The Office of Emergency Management is charged with preventing, planning for, mitigating against, responding to, and recovering from disasters. In this role, Mike coordinates the Douglas County Incident Management Team and Emergency Operations Center.
Mike also oversees the Emergency Services Unit, which includes the Douglas County Helitack program. This exceptional team combines specialized wildland firefighters with helicopters to provide rapid, aerially delivered fire suppression capability to Douglas County, saving lives and property. This unit also includes management of the DCSO Wildland Fire Team, Brush Truck, and training the Public Works Heavy Equipment Fire Team.
Mike holds a Master of Science degree from Colorado State University, and a Bachelor of Science degree from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Mike also holds numerous wildland fire and all-hazards incident management certifications.
