NARRATIVE: DOUGLAS COUNTY, CO – Yesterday, at approximately 9:48 p.m. Douglas Regional Dispatch received reports of what a citizen believed to be a lifeless infant left in her back yard, located in the 500-block of Longfellow Lane, Highlands Ranch. The baby still had the umbilical cord attached.
Investigators were called to the scene and through investigative leads a suspect has been identified. Twenty-three-year-old Camille Wasinger-Konrad (DOB 04/17/94) was taken into custody and is currently being housed in the Douglas County Detention Center on a no bond hold.
The cause and manner of death will be determined by the Douglas County Coroner’s Office.
This is an open and active investigation; all of our findings in this case are being turned over to the 18th Judicial District Attorney’s office for review. We’ve asked that the charge of murder in the first degree be filed against Wasinger-Konrad.
At this time we would like to remind the community of the Colorado Safe Haven Law which was passed 2000 and allows a parent to hand over an infant, up to 72 hours old, to an employee at any fire station or hospital with no questions asked, as long as the baby is unharmed, the parent will not be prosecuted for abandonment.
Camille Wasinger-Konrad
