Douglas County, CO — The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office has released body camera and surveillance footage from the high-speed chase that ended Kyle Williamson’s multi-county crime spree on October 11, 2023. Williamson, who fired shots at Thornton police officers before leading authorities on a dangerous pursuit, was taken into custody by Douglas County Sheriff’s Deputies after crashing into a convenience store on Plum Creek Parkway. He pled guilty on Friday to four counts of assault in the first degree and will spend 64 years in prison.
The body camera footage, now available to the public, captures the intense moments deputies risked their lives to stop Williamson and prevent further harm. Surveillance video from the store shows Williamson pointing a gun at deputies before deputies fired their weapons. Deputies gave Williamson every opportunity to put his gun down and give up, but he chose not to. Sheriff Weekly praised the bravery and professionalism of the deputies involved in the pursuit.
“Our deputies put their lives on the line to bring a violent criminal to justice,” said Sheriff Weekly. “This footage shows the reality of the dangers they face every day to protect our community, and I couldn’t be more proud of their dedication.”
Thank you to all the agencies involved, including the Castle Rock Police Department.
