The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) is investigating a suspicious circumstance that led to injuries involving a maintenance worker picking up trash around 2:15 p.m. today.
The location is 8680 S. Quebec Street near the open space on the Wildcat Trail (near Altair Park).
The initial investigation appears to be decaying trash that may have had some type of reaction causing a bottle to break. Preliminary investigation does not indicate that it is an acid type device.
As a precautionary measure we are conducting a thorough examination of the trash to determine the actual contents.
The adult male was taken to an area hospital and is being treated for minor injuries..
DCSO detectives and patrol will be searching the park and open space for evidence and potential devices.
Detectives are investigating to determine if there is any connection to previous devices found in area parks in February; however it will take considerable time to determine this.
We are also stepping up additional patrols in the open spaces and parks as a precaution.
The Investigation will continue and we ask if you have any information about this, please call our dispatch at 303.660.7500. If you see something suspicious, please call 9-1-1.
