Case Update on Armed Man Shot by Deputy Responding to Active Shooter Call

(Highlands Ranch, CO) – The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is releasing footage of the officer-involved shooting on February 8th, which occurred as a deputy responded to an active shooter at Main Event in Highlands Ranch.

“It is important to see the totality of the situation our deputy faced as he ran toward gunfire in an active shooter situation without hesitation. We believe this video will help clarify the facts surrounding this tragic incident, correct misinformation, and reassure our citizens that our deputy acted within the law. We stand behind our deputy’s quick, courageous decision-making in the face of an immediate and grave threat,” said Sheriff Darren Weekly.

As you will see in the video, the individual who was fatally shot, 23-year-old Jalin Seabron from unincorporated Arapahoe County, ignored multiple commands to drop his weapon.

During the investigation, detectives determined that Mr. Seabron was involved as a step-sibling and accessory to the female suspect, who is alleged to have fired multiple shots inside the business following a physical altercation in the women’s restroom. The female suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court. One victim was critically injured by gunfire during the initial shooting, causing widespread panic as customers fled the business.

The situation spilled into the parking lot, where Mr. Seabron was seen leaving the scene with the female suspect while armed with a handgun with an extended magazine. The dash camera, body camera, and exterior surveillance camera footage show the deputy facing immediate danger as Mr. Seabron pointed his weapon at several individuals. Despite numerous commands to drop his weapon, Mr. Seabron failed to comply and turned toward the deputy, leaving the deputy with no choice but to act swiftly to protect innocent lives. Deputies performed life-saving measures, but were unsuccessful.

“My deputy heard on the radio: ‘shooting, multiple reports of shots heard, gunshots’. He arrived on scene in less than a minute. He saw people fleeing the business and confronted a man with a gun in the parking lot. The gunman pointed his gun at several people and refused multiple commands to put his gun down before turning toward my deputy.

These situations unfold very quickly, and this individual forced my deputy to make a split-second life-or-death decision. It’s a decision that no law enforcement officer ever wants to make, but one that could not be avoided. Just this past two weeks, three law enforcement officers have been gunned down in this country. Law enforcement officers cannot hesitate in a life-threatening situation. If you have a weapon and are presenting an immediate threat of death or serious bodily injury, to us or the public, we have a duty to stop the threat. My deputy acted to save lives, including his own,” said Sheriff Weekly.

In the immediate aftermath of this incident, we released limited information based on the initial details available. At that point, we were still gathering evidence, including witness statements, body camera footage, and officer accounts. Our goal is to ensure transparency and provide a full, factual account of what led to the use of force.

We will continue to provide updates as the investigation progresses and ensure the public remains informed. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to accountability, transparency, and ensuring the safety of our community.

The deputy involved was placed on administrative leave per policy. The 23rd Judicial District is conducting an independent investigation.

A word of caution: The video contains footage of an officer-involved shooting that ultimately resulted in the individual’s death. Viewer discretion is strongly advised.
