Captain Joel White

Captain Joel White joined the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office in 1998 after serving in the United States Marine Corps. He began his career as a civilian and deputy in the Detentions Division. He served several years in the patrol division as a field training officer. In 2011, he joined the Investigations Division as a Task Force Officer, where he was assigned first to the FBI Metro Gang Task Force, and then to DEA Group 1. During that time, he was a case agent on many complex conspiracy investigations involving multi-jurisdictional and international investigations, also coordinating the prosecution of major violators of controlled substance laws operating at interstate and international levels.  

Captain White served as a detective and corporal in the Major Crimes Unit, specializing in crimes against persons. He has conducted multiple homicide investigations, countless death investigations, and cases of officer-involved shootings. As Sergeant in the Douglas County Impact Unit, he supervised a multi-agency task force whose responsibility is to identify, collect, collate, investigate, and apprehend suspects involved in criminal episodes identifiable by active pattern crimes, such as motor vehicle thefts, robberies, burglaries, narcotics, and other crimes against persons. Captain White also served as Major Crimes Lieutenant who supervised the Persons Crimes Unit, Special Victims Unit, Financial Crimes Unit, FIRST Investigative Task Force, and the Crime Scene Investigators. This division oversees death, assault, sex assault, and child abuse investigations, as well as all financial crimes.

Captain White is the Commander of the Douglas County Bomb Squad. As a team member since 2004 and graduating from FBI Hazardous Devices School (HDS) in 2006, he completed training in advanced electronics and disposal techniques, military ordinance identification and disposal, as well as numerous explosive breaching courses.

Captain White has attended multiple leadership development classes. In 2021, he graduated from Denver University Executive Public Safety Leadership Course.
