The Community Resources and Crime Prevention Unit of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is responsible for all of the community outreach and public education programs. The deputies assigned to the unit are
crime prevention specialists. They are responsible for organizing Neighborhood Watch programs, business safety and crime prevention training, safety events for seniors and children, and a variety of public education programs. The deputies meet regularly with senior citizen groups to relay information on the latest crime trends and crime prevention techniques. They also maintain open lines of communication with Neighborhood Watch block captains throughout the community. Since the terrorist attacks of September 11th, the unit has expanded the number of Neighborhood Watch programs in Douglas County by almost 50%.

One of the more valuable services the Community Resources and Crime Prevention Unit offers is the availability of free security surveys for commercial and residential properties. Following the guidelines set forth by CEPTED (crime prevention through environmental design) program and in keeping with the standards of the Colorado Regional Community Policing Institute, crime prevention specialists will do a free survey and offer information on how to improve the security of your home or business.
