This Office shall strive to maintain property in the same condition as received, and to preserve the evidentiary value and integrity of property, which has been received for possible court presentation. Unless property is contraband, hazardous, illegal to possess, or is to be presented into court, every reasonable effort will be made to ensure the return to the rightful owner. Property that cannot be returned to the rightful owner will be disposed in a manner consistent the Department Policy and Douglas County Resolution R-003-113.

Release of Evidence / Property
Evidence and property are released by appointment only on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. In order for your property to be released the one of the following requirements must be met:

You have received an owner letter from this office explaining that your property is available for release.

You have a Court Order from the Judge presiding over your case stating that the evidence in the custody of the Sheriff’s Office is to be released.
